PETITION

TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF MANITOBA:

These are the reasons for this petition:

  1. Overcrowded schools throughout Whyte Ridge, Linden Woods, Linden Ridge and Richmond West subdivisions are forcing Pembina Trails School Division to bus students outside of these areas to attend classes in the public school system.

  2. Elementary  schools in Pembina Trails School Division have run out of space to accommodate the growing population of students in the aforementioned areas.

  3. Five year projections for enrolment in the elementary schools in these areas indicate significant continued growth.

  4. Existing high schools that receive students from Whyte Ridge, Linden Woods and Linden Ridge are at capacity and cannot accommodate the growing number of students who will continue to branch out of these  subdivisions.

  5. Bussing to outlying areas is not a viable long term solution to meeting the student population growth in the southwest portion of Winnipeg.

  6. The development of Waverly West will increase the need for a high school in the southwest sector of Winnipeg.

  7. The government is demonstrating a lack of respect for the students and families of Whyte Ridge, Lindenwoods and Linden Ridge by refusing to provide adequate access to education within the community.

  8. The Fort Whyte constituency is the only constituency in the province that does not have a public high school.

We petition the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as follows:

  1. To request the Provincial Government to recognize the need for a public high school in the southwest region of Winnipeg.

  2. To request the Provincial Government, in conjunction with the Public School Finance Board, to agree to adequate funding to establish a high school in the southwest sector of Winnipeg.
